Apple to open in MBS

This new Apple boutique has to be seen to be believed.

When it came to opening their third shop in Singapore, Apple had a decision. They could either go down the standard route and create a shop that looked much like the others or they could blow it out of the water and create something so unique and so inspiring, it's sure to be used as an example in architecture lectures in years to come. Of course Apple chose the latter which leads us to the point that the new boutique in Marina Bay Sands is set to open tomorrow, Thursday September 10th.

The very first of its kind, the new Apple store is an all-glass dome, fully self-supported and comprised by 114 pieces of glass with only 10 narrow vertical bars. Sitting completely surrounded by water, thanks to the circular design, the shop has incredible 360-degree views of Singapore. Inspired by the Pantheon in Rome, trees line the interior of the dome to provide shading from the flooding light from the opening in the dome and, as a nod to Singapore's fame as the Garden City.

“We couldn’t be more excited to open the breathtaking Apple Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, building on our commitment to this special place that began more than 40 years ago,” said Deirdre O’Brien, Apple’s senior vice president of Retail + People. “Our passionate and talented team is ready to welcome this community to our new store and deliver the care and support that our customers around the world love.”

With 148 staff on site, there are 23 languages spoken, visitors to the store will find not only Apple's latest products and accessories showcased, but there are 23 Geniuses on hand as well as a Video Wall to feature sessions from budding artists, musicians and creators as well as an underwater Boardroom, located on the lower level of the store.

While the shop opens tomorrow from 10am, visits for the first day will be by appointment only, with the shop opening to the general public on Friday.
