DBS Bank wins gender equality award for fourth year running

Well done, DBS.

There are so many industries where gender inequality just goes unquestioned and traditionally, the finance world has been one of those. Well, not for DBS as they have been named to the Blooomberg Gender-Equality Index for the fourth year running. Pretty impressive, right - but that's not all as the bank is the only company in the ASEAN region in the Gender-Equality Index's top quarter for this year.

The Index lists 380 companies from 11 sectors spanning over 44 countries and regions worldwide and celebrates their transparency and commitment to bettering gender-related practises and policies. It looks for five pillars in its study: female leadership and talent pipeline, equal pay and gender pay parity, inclusive culture, sexual harassment policies, and pro-women brand.

DBS has been committed to providing an inclusive work environment, offering flexible work arrangements, maternity and paternity leave and even job-sharing arrangments where one full-time job can be split between two employees. They have ensured that they are looking to build up their pool of females in the technology area, a space where women are often under-represented and have also created the DBS Foundation, the first foundation in Singapore dedicated to championing social entrepreneurship which funds various social enterprises to empower disadvantaged women and girls.

It attests to our firm commitment to advancing parity across DBS, and our efforts in building a respectful and inclusive workplace that embraces gender, generational and cultural diversity. We believe gender equality is essential to sustainable growth. At DBS, women comprise 50% of our workforce, 40% of our senior management, and run our largest businesses and key functions across the bank.”
