Driving In The Right Direction

Saudi Arabia Rules To Let Women Drive

In a historic move, Saudi Arabia have decreed that by next year, all women will be allowed to hold a driving licence.

In every country around the world, women drivers are norm, yet until today, women have been forbidden to drive in Saudi Arabia.

However, this is all about to change after the King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, issued a decree allowing women to drive. This move is backed by major Saudi leaders including the influential Saudi Prince, Alwaleed bin Talal, who believes that this is not just a matter of human rights but of economic necessity to drive this progressive change.

Though the order will only become effective in June 2018, it is still a major win for womens human right and Saudi activists who have been campaigning for the ban to be overruled since the 1990s.
