Grab to invest $150m in AI

Grab eyes plans to be  the region's new super app.

Ride hailing app, food delivery service and payment platform, it seems Grab aren't  satisfied with being one of the region's most  used services, but as competition from Gojek heats up, Grab are looking to develop their app, and offerings, even more.

According to co-founder Tan Hooi Ling, Grab plan to invest $150 million into the already allotted $100million to improve its fraud prevention and natural language processing  tech. She said of Grab: “We want to go from AI-powered to AI everywhere" and that she sees localised languages in Southeast Asia as being very underserved, leading to Grab's work with Microsoft Corp to make language functions and digital payments even easier.

Tan expanded on her sentiments by claiming that although tech was at the forefront of their research, the customer and their journey and ease of use was at the core of everything that they do. She claimed that the company is hiring thousands of people throughout their research centers across the world to create a 'super app' that can do everything from lending money, trading to ride hailing.
