Knowledge of Design Week 2024 Presents Inter/Section: Crafting Tomorrow’s Design

Discover the future of design at KODW 2024.

Organised by the Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) in collaboration with France as the Partner Country, Knowledge of Design Week (KODW) 2024 is set to be a groundbreaking event. Co-organised with the Hong Kong Design Institute and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design, and led by Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) of the HKSAR Government, KODW 2024 will take place from June 25-27 at the W Hong Kong hotel and various venues across the city.

Under the theme “Inter/Section: Crafting Tomorrow’s Design,” KODW 2024 will explore the fusion of craftsmanship and technology. The event will feature over 30 renowned industry experts, creative leaders, and artisans in fields such as exhibition design, architecture, built environments, design education, and craftsmanship. This year’s event aims to foster the exchange of ideas and collaborations across diverse disciplines, emphasizing the integration of design with artistry, technology, and culture.

France's unique strength in craftsmanship will be a highlight, with creators and policymakers showcasing cutting-edge approaches through innovative designs. Hong Kong, as a nexus of East-meets-West, will serve as the ideal international design hub for this cultural exchange.

Following their initial partnership in 2009, France returns as the Partner Country for KODW 2024. This event will mark the inaugural flagship event under the annual partnership between France and HKDC. Additionally, France will facilitate a series of design-related projects in Hong Kong, such as bringing the Parisian trade fair Maison&Objet to the city as part of the “Design December” initiative. This aims to position Hong Kong as the premier destination for global design, culture, business, and tourism in the Greater Bay Area.

Prof. Eric Yim, Chairman of HKDC, emphasized the importance of design thinking and interdisciplinary collaboration for addressing rapidly evolving challenges. He expressed excitement for the fresh wave of inspiration that KODW 2024 will bring through the sharing of knowledge and experience, further strengthening Hong Kong’s position as an international design hub.

Christile Drulhe, Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, highlighted the honor of France being the Partner Country for KODW 2024. She looks forward to the creative dialogues between artisans and designers from France and other global creators, fostering cultural exchange between East and West.
