Preview: What To Look Out For At SIHH 2017

Highlights from the upcoming edition of Salon International de la Haute Horlogeri

Watch season is almost upon us. Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, or SIHH as it is more commonly known, will return for the 27th consecutive year from 16 — 20 January 2017.

For the first time ever, SIHH will be opening its doors to the public. After the four trade days (16 — 19 January 2017), watch aficionados will be able to visit the various exhibitors’ booths at the show. SIHH 2017 will also mark the arrival of several new brands, including Ulysse Nardin. Girard-Perregaux will also return to the fair.

Here we bring you a sneak peek at some of the timepieces that will be on show at the fair, courtesy of our friends at Crown.

Panerai Radiomir 3 Day Acciaio

This year, Panerai will be marching out two new Radiomir models inspired by vintage pieces that were once presented to officers in the Royal Italian Navy. Both models are powered by Panerai’s in-house P.3000 hand-wound movement, introduced in 2010, with three-day power reserve driven by two spring barrels.

Piaget Altiplano Self-winding 43mm and Manual-winding 38mm

Piaget is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its collection by dedicating 2017 to the Altiplano. Several new models are slated to be released throughout the year and the first of the series is a pair of stunning blue timepieces — one hand-wound and the other, automatic.

Roger Dubuis Excalibur Cobalt MicroMelt

The main attraction of the new Excalibur Cobalt MicroMelt has to be the 48mm case, made of a cobalt-chrome alloy called Cobalt MicroMelt that is proprietary to Roger Dubuis. The alloy emanates a metallic sheen and is said to be very corrosion-resistant, thanks to a protective film that forms over the material after it is forged.

A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Moon Phase

The key piece from the Saxon brand this year has to be the new Lange 1 Moon Phase. Once again the brand showcases a mechanical innovation that begs the question: why hasn’t anyone thought of this before?

Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Minute Repeater Tourbillon

Vacheron Constantin’s Traditionnelle Minute Repeater Tourbillon, a double-complication comprising tourbillon and minute repeater conceived entirely within the walls of the company, is a work of beauty and technical fastidiousness.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Frosted Gold

To celebrate its 40th anniversary this year, the women’s Royal Oak will be offered in a scintillating new option — Frosted Gold. Using a surface treatment process based on the Florentine technique, the metal is beaten with a diamond-tipped tool so that tiny indentations are made on the surface, resulting in a sparkle like diamond dust.
