Z Zegna Summer 2020

Could this be the most fashionable eco wear we have ever seen?

There are many things you might know about the famed fashion brand Ermenegildo Zegna and their many diffusion labels, including Z Zegna, but did you know that they are so committed to reducing the damage today’s living creates on our environment that they went so far as to open a nature park in 1993? That’s right, opened by the Zegna family over 20 years ago, Oasi Zegna sits in the Province of Biella and features such attractions as ski slopes and panoramic roads which are designed specifically to develop visitor’s environmental education. In fact, so successful has this scheme been that Oasi Zegna have even collaborated with likes of TEMA, a Turkish organization against desertification and have handed out ecological awards to String, Ted Danson and Trudi Styler for their commitment to the environment and desertification.

And it’s this topic of desertification that leads us on to Z Zegna’s recently unveiled 2020 Summer collection. With Artistic Director, Alessandro Sartori using this theme not only as his inspiration for the look and feel of the collection, he also took this passion as far as inspiring the choice of materials and production methods used.

Presented at Fortezza da Basso’s Teatrino Lorenese, an actual desert was used as the set up from the props to the video projections outlining an imaginary desert as a backdrop.

When it came to materials, up-cycled and recyclable fibres were used alongside water-friendly treatments and washing processes to create the cutting-edge and distinctly urban collection featuring deconstructed silhouettes. Perhaps echoing the desert vibe, or maybe just with Summer in mind, the featherweight materials were left unlined, while the brand’s signature high-tech materials took on a new turn with a silky finish featuring printed Madras checks or iridescent motifs. Trousers were finished in three styles; slim, cargo or carrot, while mix and match took its turn thanks to loose outerwear including windbreakers, anoraks and bombers in both shiny and matt textures were paired with a medley of bottoms.

Fans of the brand will already know about Z Zegna’s TECHMERINOTM WASH&GO line, a range of suiting designed to be washed easily and not to crease, and for Summer 2020 things were taken up a notch or two. Using the colours of the desert as inspiration, deep red rusts, indigo and khakis were paired with off-whites, oranges, lime greens and pinks alongside tactile, textured fabrics for a truly unique aesthetic.
